Teaching is a process that involves those teaching activities which a teacher performs in the classroom. It is based on planning and specifically lesson planning. Thus, a lesson plan is a detailed plan prepared by the teacher in advance for daily teaching.It helps the teacher in systematic, and effective teaching.

 Lesson plan is a teaching outline of the important point of a lesson arranged in order in which they are to be presented; It may include objectives, points to be made, questions to be asked, the reference to materials, assignments, etc..

An Ideal Lesson Plan should be :
  • Divided into Units
  • Objective-based
  • Contain appropriate teaching aids
  • Based on Previous Knowledge
  • Simplicity of Language
  • Time-sense
  • Use of Black-board
  • Use of Illustrations
  • Individual Guidance
  • Use of Strategies, Tactics, Techniques
  • Correlation
  • Teaching from Memory level to Reflective Level

  • Evaluation
  • Homework
Types of lesson plans:
  1. Knowledge Lesson, they are those which cause an increase in the knowledge of various facts and events through knowledge lesson such as the lessons of History, Geography, Economics, Civics, Mathematics, Science, and Grammar.
  2. Appreciation Lesson, these are based on the affective aspect of the learner’s activity. These give aesthetic inspiration to the pupils and develop their appreciation.  Poetry lessons are good example of this type.
  3. Skill Lesson, in these lessons, the psychomotor aspect of the learner’s mental activity is more
    activate. Skill lessons make the pupils efficient in doing some tasks, while the teacher provides some guidance to the pupils in the beginning. Following the teacher’s or guidelines all the pupils get involved in accomplishing the tasks.

Before planning a lesson, it is essential to classify the learning outcomes for the class.
